Relasi Gereja dengan Israel merupakan satu topik yang diperbincangkan sejak zaman Perjanjian Baru. Roma pasal 11 mengemukakan pemahaman Paulus tentang masa depan Israel dalam rencana Allah. Paulus melihat masalah ini berdasarkan konsep “yang tersisa”, yaitu kelompok kecil orang-orang Yahudi yang telah menerima Yesus sebagai Mesias. Ada aspek kontinuitas dan diskontinuitas dalam pemahaman Paulus tentang relasi Gereja dengan Israel. Umat Allah yang dalam Perjanjian Lama merupakan label untuk Israel sekarang mencakup juga orang percaya dari bangsa-bangsa lain. Akan tetapi, keselamatan yang disediakan Allah bagi Israel tetap tidak berubah oleh karena pilihan-Nya atas mereka berdasarkan anugerah. Paulus mengantisipasi terjadinya penggenapan keselamatan bagi seluruh Israel melalui iman kepada Kristus bilamana jumlah yang penuh dari bangsa-bangsa lain telah percaya.
